College, Is it worth your time and money?
As one grows older, one must realize every major decision has an impact on ones future. Education has been around for many years, only to have a positive effect on society. Education is the foundation of success if you have goals and high expectations, one can fulfill them through education.

The fact that the “United States has long been viewed as a land of opportunity, particularly in access to higher education,” (Johnson). There should be no reason students do not apply themselves towards college. Many colleges entering high school conferences they give an early view to students, with pamphlets, flyers and free pens. Johnson states that there are bright youths and everyone is equally deserving of a college education. “The haves and the have-nots cannot be separated by degrees of inequality..,” thus is no exclusion why everyone cannot have the right to attend college. Only when students who are not prepared, they may fail (Johnson). Education is the door for opportunities, regardless of ones background.

Furthermore, college is a way to raise employers’ income elves. “On average, economists find that college raises wages by about 15-30 percent (Ferenstein). Considering that employers are willing to pay more to students with a degree should be more of an influence to upcoming high school grads. If one has more of a talent skill, they could be better off at a vocational school. With vocation schools at lower prices, vocational schools can be a better choice (Ferenstein). If the Chairman of Google Inc, is stating that school is important, there is no way that students can't be influenced. If college would not be here in today’s' day and age, we would have a crumbling society and economic turmoil. College is the structure of the economy. Businesses are not hiring those who do not have a college degree, when the economy depends on them. A degree is a great influence to employers, when scouting for future employees. A degree shows that one has the dedication and strong ethic to their future work. College shapes their students so that they may go for internships, better jobs and research studies, to prove that college is worth your time and dedication. While one was raised to believe that high school would help us out in the real world, were wrong. College is where we learn lessons, mistakes, and new viewings. Where in grades k-12, students are only taught the fundamentals of education. Higher education teaches that one must be focused and open to new opportunities to have a better future.

On the other hand some believe college is a waste for those with talents. Nielsen speaks about how there is the media and society which can help one with their dreams. There are also degrees in the arts and theatre field, which many don’t need a degree for. Nielsen states how “you can be a famous chef with your own cooking show… a photographer to the rich and famous…” these are only a few professions that can be done without a college degree. There are many successors such as, Steve Jobs, Mary Kay Ash, Mark Zuckerburg, David Geffen, who have no degree, yet are very will in life (Nielsen). Students are being slaved with no time to discover what they want for their future. “Many kids who picked a major unsure…shoved through a door…were never given time to explore the opportunities behind the other doors.” Therefore many current college dropouts are left with a huge debt. When one is young we are just pressured to get all the education we need. There is no freedom to decide what one wants to do; only that college is the answer.

Under those circumstances, “only about a third of those jobs will be available to people with a high school diploma or less. Those jobs are expected to be confined to three low-wage job categories; food and personal services, sales and office support and manufacturing and construction (Nunez). For example those who choose a cooking profession, many do not get their own...
